Trinity-Sergius Lavra was founded in 1345 as a solitary desert by Bartholomew and Stephan sons of a Rostov Boyar Cyril. Bartholomew, who took monastic vows was soon named Serge, entered to the history of Russia as a close associate of Moscow princes in uniting of Russian lands.
Architectural Ensemble of the Trinity Sergius Lavra is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List (1993). Numerous Lavra structures erected during the XV - XIX centuries by the best artists and architects of Russia.
